High levels of expressed emotion in family members of mentally ill adults often correlate with relapse and poor outcome.Initial studies have revealed similar associations in families of children with psychiatric and medical disorders. Advances in this area for diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and research in child psychiatry are identified.
